EnOcean GmbH will demonstrate its innovative self-powered wireless sensor technology for intelligent green buildings on Stand C22 at M&E 2007, The Building Services Event, taking place 10-11 October, Olympia, London. Powered by energy drawn from light, movement or even changes in temperature, EnOcean’s technology is rapidly becoming accepted as the standard for innovative sensor solutions in ecological building automation projects, ensuring greater energy efficiency and unparalleled flexibility at the lowest investment and operational cost.
An ‘Intelligent Green Building’ is defined as one that optimises personal productivity and comfort, cost efficiency, environmental awareness and energy-conservation. Building automation systems that utilise battery-free wireless radio technology are central to achieving such sustainable, intelligent green buildings.
EnOcean offers a simple yet intelligent, self-powered wireless communications solution which is eco-friendly, easily installed and maintenance-free. Unlike all other radio technologies, EnOcean’s sensors do not require batteries for operation. Energy harvested from the surrounding environment is used for transmitting sensor information over a distance of up to 30 meters within a building to control lighting, blinds, heating or air conditioning without the need for cabling.
EnOcean’s wireless switch recently won the ‘Building Product Innovation Award’ at the 100% Design London Awards in association with property developer Londonewcastle (Earls Court, London, 21 September 2007). The device beat nine other products nominated for the award, which was judged by a panel of high profile architects, services engineers and structural engineers. The judges were looking for innovation, intelligent use of materials and technology, and evidence of how the product improves the construction process.
At this year’s M&E show, EnOcean will share its stand with product partners PEHA and Thermokon, as well as with its local distributors TDC and EnOceanShop (UK). Andreas Schneider, EnOcean’s Executive VP Sales & Marketing explains: "EnOcean and its partners have been successful in equipping a significant number of buildings in continental Europe, and matching the requirements of UK regulations for efficient use of energy. We are now ready to enable intelligent green buildings in the UK and look forward to sharing the benefits of self-powered wireless technology with the architect, building contractor and property owner community."
EnOcean’s technology has also been short listed for the ‘Best innovation in green product or service’ award in The Working Buildings Week Innovation Awards 2007. The awards will be presented to the winning companies during a ceremony on Wednesday 10 October 2007.
TDC and EnOceanShop (UK)
In the UK, EnOcean’s innovative technology is marketed via specialised distributor TDC (member of the Abacus Group) offering the technology modules, including miniaturised energy generators, radio components and desing-in support for integration in various local OEM products. EnOceanShop (UK), run by Ivory Egg, is a specialist wholesaler for EnOcean-based end products providing technical support and assistance with product selection for both residential and commercial projects.
PEHA Easyclick wireless lighting control
PEHA will show its Easyclick door/window contact wireless system which delivers a variety of advantages for lighting, security & safety applications. Unique in this system are its transmitters, which work entirely without batteries. The wireless modules from EnOcean, conceived for switch applications, generate enough energy when the switch is pressed to transmit the wireless signal. Wireless switches can be simply adhered to any surface, so they are ideal for redesigns and retrofits. The receivers come in different forms, for example as an intermediate connector, under plaster insert, for use in ceiling rose or ceiling fitting. The Easyclick PHC interface links the PEHA house control system to Easyclick for numerous extra functions.
Thermokon Easysens wireless sensors system
Thermokon Sensortechnik will present its EasySens wireless sensor system for HVAC applications. Innovative solar-powered wireless technology makes it possible to harvest ambient light for temperature regulation and ventilation, and to control lighting and blinds in buildings. The wireless sensors need no battery and no external power source. The energy produced by a solar cell is sufficient for reliable sensor operation. A selection of devices are available for temperature monitoring, relative humidity, brightness, status detection and data evaluation - on bus systems such as LON, EIB, RS485 and Ethernet. Analogue and digital output devices are obtainable for direct driving of actuators.
