Oberhaching, Germany, 18 November 2008

EnOcean GmbH today announced its outstanding achievements at the Elektra 2008 European Electronics Industry Awards held in Munich on 10 November. The company received the Wireless & Telecoms Design Award for its self-powered wireless sensor modules and subsequently scooped the Company of the Year Award in recognition of its technology innovation and business success in the building automation market.

“This truly is a fantastic achievement for EnOcean and our energy-harvesting wireless technology,” says Andreas Schneider, Executive Vice President and co-founder of EnOcean GmbH. “2008 has been a significant milestone in the development of EnOcean technology as the wireless standard in sustainable buildings across the world. Known as the Oscars of the electronics industry to many, becoming double Elektra Award winner means so much to our company and to the EnOcean Alliance.”

New for 2008, the Wireless & Telecoms Design Award, sponsored by Gleichmann-Sunrise Ltd., was open to companies or research organisations that could demonstrate how they have successfully applied component and software technologies in a wireless or telecoms product or application. According to the judges, “This specialist design category brought out surprising levels of innovation in many of the entries”.

EnOcean’s entry for its miniature, self-powered wireless sensor modules for maintenance-free monitoring and control in building automation applications was pronounced winner. The modules harvest energy resources from their surrounding environment – such as pressure, light, temperature change, rotation and vibration – to transmit signals of an astonishing range. Consequently, EnOcean sensors can work where other wireless technologies cannot, adding unparalleled flexibility not only in initial placement but also during renovation.

The Company of the Year Award, sponsored by The IET, was chosen from the winners of each of the individual categories. “The range of business success and technical innovation on view this year was impressive,” said the judging panel. EnOcean stood out its forward-thinking business professionalism and commitment to delivering world-class technology.
