ISH 2009: New possibilities for the heating and ventilation markets
Oberhaching near Munich, March 11, 2009
The foundation technology for EnOcean self-powered wireless sensors offers optimal energy efficiency improvements in heating and ventilation applications. From the EnOcean Alliance stand at ISH 2009, Frankfurt am Main, 10-14 March, EnOcean GmbH will present technology and products based on this theme.
Highly flexible, maintenance-free radio sensor solutions
EnOcean develops maintenance-free wireless sensor technology for use in buildings and industrial installations. EnOcean wireless components harvest tiny amounts of energy from their surrounding environment and can be installed without cables thereby completely eliminating maintenance work such as battery replacement.
Furthermore, EnOcean wireless technology offers the greatest installation flexibility. The sensors can be installed in locations for optimal use with minimal effort, without causing damage and can be removed easily, if required.
EnOcean wireless technology saves energy in heating, cooling and ventilation applications
Another major benefit of EnOcean technology is its energy-efficiency. EnOcean components can be used to realise optimal building automation solutions which simultaneously provide comfort and energy savings.
Products and systems enabled by EnOcean are easily integrated into current building automation systems through interfaces such as LON, KNX, BACnet, TCP/IP or Ethernet. In this way effortless sustainable energy management concepts can be implemented.
Whether in homes, offices, schools, museums or other buildings, EnOcean sensors provide the precise metrics necessary to regulate optimal heating and ventilation. The wireless sensors can be installed exactly where they are needed. For example, to monitor a heat pump, for example. Also, when renovating facilities, no complex rewiring is necessary.
Wide product range from global manufacturers
Over 100 manufacturers have designed products based on EnOcean modules such as the solar powered STM 110 sensor transmitter module.
The STM 110 can function with as low as 50 lx, and its powerful integrated energy storage allows unrestricted functionality for several days in darkness. The module is extremely flexible in its implementation and supplies maintenance-free, self-powered sensors for temperature, light, humidity, steam, gas, electricity, water and pressure.
EnOcean Dolphin: new possibilities for heating applications
EnOcean’s new Dolphin platform enables bidirectional communication of self-powered wireless sensors and actuators creating the foundation for a wide variety of new products and applications such as heating.
After transmitting an RF signal, the sensors can remain “awake” for a short period of time to receive information from the network. Single room sensors could show if a window is open, explaining why the heating or air conditioning has been switched off.
Also new is an extremely economical timer, only requiring 100 nA of power consumption, which can be implemented in receivers. This now allows self-powered heater drives to be manufactured. The drives harvest energy from the temperature difference between the heating system and its surroundings and collect periodic control values from a control centre. In the future, advanced EnOcean wireless communication could also wirelessly control radiator valves.
