The developer of batteryless wireless technology shows the new Dolphin platform (hall 9.0, booth B40)
Oberhaching bei München, April 13, 2010
At Light+Building 2010 EnOcean GmbH is presenting its Dolphin platform, enabling the use of bidirectional and self-powered wireless sensors for the first time. Dolphin modules can not only transmit information, they can also receive it. This paves the way to whole new applications in building automation that visitors to the show can experience live at the booth of the EnOcean Alliance (hall 9.0, booth B40). In support of this, EnOcean GmbH is conducting a number of seminars devoted to self-powered wireless technology.
Self-powered wireless technology was first presented to a wider public at Light+Building 2002. With the self-powered and wireless switch module PTM 100 from EnOcean, for the first time a switch was able to convert the applied pressure into energy that could be transmitted wirelessly to turn on a light. In the meantime, EnOcean's energy harvesting technology has been implemented in more than 100,000 buildings worldwide, creating more flexibility and higher energy efficiency. The new bidirectional Dolphin platform with the energy-autonomous STM 300 wireless sensor module, plus the two programmable system modules TCM 300 and TCM 320, is the result of continuing enhancement of this wireless technology.
Energy harvesting enters the next generation
At Light+Building EnOcean and its OEM partners are showing the types of new application scenarios possible in building services engineering, enabled by this bidirectional wireless technology integrated in different kinds of equipment or installations. One example is a room control based on the STM 300 Dolphin module. With its integrated sensors it is able to wirelessly transmit the current figures for temperature, humidity, brightness or air quality in a room to a central household automation station. From here the device can simultaneously receive status information, such as the ventilator level momentarily activated, adjustments of air-conditioning plant or other kinds of settings. An integrated LC display always indicates the figures measured and different status information. Working by ultra-low-power EnOcean technology, the device needs no batteries, drawing its energy instead through a miniaturised solar cell. Since no cabling is necessary, the room control can be simply adhered to the wall.
Further products currently being developed by EnOcean partners, and enabled by the Dolphin platform, include switch and dimmer actuators, smart metering devices, mini motor actuator with zone valve as well as gateways for several automation systems.
Knowledge straight from the source – EnOcean open seminar at the booth
During Light+Building, EnOcean is staging a number of open seminars at the joint booth of the EnOcean Alliance (hall 9.0, booth B40). At the four events interested show visitors can find out more about self-powered bidirectional wireless technology and the many different possibilities of Dolphin platform integration. Here is the seminar schedule:
- Monday, April 12: 16:30–16:45 h: Simple integration with Dolphin modules.
- Tuesday, April 13: 16:30–16:45 h: Introduction in the speedy and simple development with the EnOcean application notes.
- Wednesday, April 14: 16:30–16:45 h: Green. Smart. Wireless. Introduction of the Energy Harvesting Wireless Technology from EnOcean and an overview of the EnOcean modules.
- Thursday, April 15: 16:30–16:45 h: Starting off in bidirectional and energy-autonomous wireless with the EDK 300 EnOcean developer kit.
For all questions in and around bidirectional wireless technology and energy harvesting there will be specialists from EnOcean GmbH and the EnOcean Alliance on the spot at the show booth.
