Andreas Schneider, Executive VP & Founder of EnOcean considers the latest devices enabling energy harvesting and their lucrative measure to balance the power budget
Over a decade ago Energy Harvesting was known only to a small group of research engineers. But if you Google search it today you will find nearly two million hits. Tougher environmental standards and soaring energy costs demand optimised concepts for the way we use our energy and innovative technologies, which enable reduced operational and maintenance cost.
In line with this, EnOcean has developed solutions that harvest the necessary power from their surroundings: linear motion, light or differences in temperature, for example. The amount of energy obtained in this way is enough to send a wireless signal, and turn on a light for instance.
