Samuel Simonsson (Chairman)
In 1975, after his engineering studies at the Braunschweig University of Technology, Samuel Simonsson co-founded a laser technology company in Hamburg that he led as CEO until 1994. He developed this company from its modest beginnings to a world market leader in the field of industrial lasers with production sites in Germany, in the USA, and in Japan. The company, which he sold in 1987 to Siemens, is today Nasdaq- and TecDax-listed. After he left the company he acted as coach and chairman of advisory boards of several young and growth-oriented technology companies.
Rolf Christof Dienst (Wellington Partners)
Wellington Partners founder Rolf Christof Dienst has been a leading entrepreneur in the VC industry and Technology sector for over 30 years, playing a key role in shaping the German VC landscape.Rolf studied law at the LMU Munich and became a lawyer in 1974. Parallel to his studies he co-founded the Matuschka Group (investment banking) in 1968. He was President until he sold his shares in 1990. During that time Rolf was head of the corporate finance and venture capital department with 150 professionals and 10 offices in Europe and North America. Together with TA Associates, Boston, Rolf organized in 1978 one of the first US venture capital programs for German investors. In 1984 he co-founded TVM – Techno Venture Management Munich together with TA Associates, Siemens AG and Matuschka. Among others he co-founded companies like Telcare and ImmobilienScout24. He is actively involved with the LMU Entrepreneurship Center at the Ludwig-Maximilian-Universität, München and honorary senator of this university. He is chairman of the board of the BVK, the German Private Equity and Venture Capital Organisation and advisory board member of the High Tech Gründer Fonds, the EUR 270 million start-up initiative of the German government. From 2007 to 2009 he was also the CEO of the BVK, the Bundesverband Deutscher Kapitalbeteiligungsgesellschaften.
Wouter Jonk (SET Venture Partners)
Wouter is Managing Director of SET Venture Partners, powered by Chrysalix and Robeco, B.V., responsible for managing the Sustainable Energy Technology Fund (SET Fund) based in Amsterdam with a pan-European investment focus on innovative companies with entrepreneurial management teams actively developing new technologies for the production of clean energy, alternative fuels, CO2 reduction, load balancing and energy savings.Before joining SET Venture Partners, Wouter was CFO of Philips Healthcare Incubator, where his responsibilities included direct investments and funding structures including venture capital. Until end of 2005, he was part of the Philips Corporate Venturing team, having joined at the time of formation (1998), where he was first responsible for the European activities. From 1999 through 2001 Wouter was based in Silicon Valley, USA in the position of Operational Manager of the North American team responsible for all US venturing deals. From 2002 through 2005 he was responsible for both venturing and M&A deals for Philips based in Europe. Previously, Wouter worked in the M&A group of Philips after being Manager at Price Waterhouse Coopers Corporate Finance. He started his career in Dutch Venture Capital with Greenfield Capital Partners and N.V. Brabant (merged into NeSBIC). Wouter holds a Masters degree in Technology Management from Technical University Twente, The Netherlands.
Frank Ullmann (Kathrein Group)
Frank Ullmann has been with Kathrein Werke KG since 2002 as vice-president of the business management and holdings division. He is responsible for the departments controlling, taxes and balances, consolidation, insurances, law, information technology, mergers and acquisitions, as well as for supporting the 60 corporate holdings. Prior to this he was an executive of an IPO and M&A consultancy for clients from the industrial sectors telecommunications, media, IT and biotechnology. While and after studying business economics he worked as a management consultant on more than 50 international industrial projects focusing on streamlining of process and structural organization, initiation of change processes or optimization of the value added chain. He commenced his career in 1987 as a trainee banking officer.
Markus Moor (Emerald Technology Ventures AG)
is a Partner with Emerald Technology Ventures and is responsible for investments in the field of emerging energy technologies. He currently serves on the boards of Enocean, O-Flexx Technologies and Xunlight. Since joining Emerald in Zurich in 2001 he also spent three years in Emerald’s North American office in Montreal. Prior to this position Markus worked for two years as a Public Equity Analyst in the Asset Management and Research Department of SAM Sustainable Asset Management with a strong focus on the energy sector and later as an Investment Director for SAM Private Equity. Prior to joining SAM, he gained operational and engineering experience by working with Miteco, a Swiss based engineering start-up specialized in the development of continuous production processes and related equipment. This included R&D positions as well as project management positions where he gained broad experience in designing and setting up new manufacturing processes in Europe and Asia. Markus holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering with Honor from the University of Applied Sciences Solothurn in Switzerland and a MS in Economics and Technology Management with Honor from the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland.
Wolfram Friedl
After his studies of electrical engineering with focus on communications engineering, he joined Siemens AG in 1975. During his long-lasting employment he met several tasks in different positions, such as development, system engineering, product management and Sales Manager worldwide for installations technology. As Consultant for e-business, Mr. Friedl deals with an integrated global solution in the "act as one Siemens" project for a mega-event in Asia.
Christian Wiesinger (Siemens Technology Accelerator)
Christian Wiesinger joined the Siemens Technology Accelerator at its incorporation in 2001 as CFO. He started his professional career as a test engineer for electrical safety and EMC in Vienna. He later joined Siemens AG Austria as a project manager for IT sales for the retail and financial services sector, followed by various management positions in finance and business administration at Siemens AG and Siemens Nixdorf in Munich, Germany. Christian holds a degree in Business Administration from Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration.
Dr.-Ing. Jochen Walter (BayTech Venture Capital)
Since 2000, Jochen Walter is partner of the company BayTech Venture Capital. There he is responsible for the divisions micro-system technology, mechatronics, measurement engineering, energy and environmental technology. Before working for the venture capital company, Jochen Walter has been working for several years as a project manager for machine building and car industry in A. T. Kearney management consulting. Moreover, Jochen Walter has acquired operational experience in the field of consumer goods industry and food industry. He was working for Unilever as Manager Product and Process Development for the brands Bresso and Brunch and was responsible for the product development and the construction of new production lines. After his studies of mechanical engineering and process engineering at the Technical University of München and the University of California, Santa Barbara, he graduated in technical chemistry.
