By understanding how space is used, businesses can \u201cright-size\u201d their office environments, reduce costs, and improve the workplace experience.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>As Kal puts it: \u201cWe\u2019re not trying to take away desks \u2014 we\u2019re helping organizations understand how they use space, so they can optimize it and make smarter, data-driven decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Technology Enablers: Making Data Work Harder<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>At the heart of smart buildings lies data \u2014 and the sensors that generate it. EnOcean technology provides that granularity, but simplifying deployment and integration is essential. Traditionally, collecting sensor data required installing additional IoT gateways, which added cost, wiring, and cybersecurity risks. A simple USB radio dongle transforms access points into data receivers \u2014 dramatically simplifying deployment. \u201cFrom an IT perspective, this approach is much more secure,\u201d Kal explains. \u201cIt\u2019s fully compliant with an organization\u2019s existing network policies and doesn\u2019t introduce new vulnerabilities.\u201d This plug-and-play model also accelerates rollouts \u2014 simply scan a QR code on the sensor, connect via the Wi-Fi network, and start collecting actionable data in minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cybersecurity and the Future of Connected Buildings<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Cybersecurity remains a key consideration for any IoT deployment. Kal highlights how minimizing third-party gateways and leveraging existing IT infrastructure reduces the <em>attack surface<\/em> while keeping control firmly in the hands of corporate IT teams. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As buildings become smarter and more connected, this collaboration between operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) will be critical to ensuring both <strong>efficiency and security<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Looking Ahead<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>From sustainability to cybersecurity, the smart building revolution is accelerating \u2014 and energy harvesting technology sits at its core.
