EnOcean at Bluetooth World 2018: Self-powered wireless control solutions for Bluetooth® lighting systems

At Bluetooth World 2018, technology provider EnOcean will be demonstrating maintenance-free lighting control solutions for Bluetooth® lighting systems based on proven energy harvesting technology.

Salt Lake City, UT/Santa Clara, CA – September 4, 2018

At Bluetooth World (September 18-19, 2018, Santa Clara, US), EnOcean, world leader in energy harvesting wireless technology, will showcase maintenance-free wireless solutions for modern lighting systems and the Internet of Things (IoT). At booth 520, visitors can experience self-powered wireless switches and solar-powered sensors for Bluetooth® lighting systems, all on the basis of proven energy harvesting technology. Offering these maintenance-free, ready-to-use solutions, EnOcean’s OEM customers are able to focus on the quickly evolving LED market opportunities. The combination of smart LED lighting with sensors integrated into an IoT network also helps to enhance the energy performance of buildings and to drive digital transformation of buildings forward.

Key technology for intelligent lighting and IoT systems

The transition from traditional lighting to LED lighting has triggered a wave of innovation that will establish lighting as an Internet of Things (IoT) backbone in the building. High node density coupled with readily available power supply make lighting fixtures ideal nodes of a connected wireless mesh network. Self-powered wireless sensors do not require any batteries and therefore can provide this data quickly, conveniently and without the need for maintenance. Energy harvesting technology is playing a key role to balance costs and benefits for maximized efficiency, making EnOcean a major partner for enabling IoT solutions and sustainable smart lighting control.

“Modern smart lighting systems still require occupant input, whether that comes from motion sensors or light switches, running wires to these devices can be a daunting task while battery powered devices introduce constant maintenance headaches. Using self-powered wireless sensors and switches solve both of these challenges in one step”, says Troy Davis, Sales Director, EnOcean Inc.

At Bluetooth World (booth 520), EnOcean will be presenting maintenance-free sensor and switch solutions for modern lighting control of Bluetooth® lighting systems.

Easyfit Bluetooth Switches

With the acceleration of the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Mesh systems and the real need for batteryless light switches, EnOcean developed a BLE version of their proven self-powered Dolphin modules. The standardized form factor of the switch module PTM 215B can be incorporated into various designs of worldwide leading switch manufacturers.

In addition, under the brand Easyfit, EnOcean offers ready-to-use LED controls for Bluetooth® lighting control systems in 2.4 GHz based on the proven energy harvesting technology. The self-powered and wireless Easyfit Bluetooth® switches with Near Field Communication (NFC) allow simple or complex lighting scenes and effects, and enable simple, flexible installation of lighting applications.

Manufacturers such as Illumra and Echoflex have already included the self-powered BLE switch in their offering. Combined with Bluetooth® lighting systems from Casambi, Helvar, Silvair, Vossloh-Schwabe, Xicato and Wirepas, Easyfit wall switches offer lighting installers the benefits of maintenance-free, easily positionable and ready-to-use solutions, allowing flexible control as well as intuitive usage.

At Bluetooth World 2018, in addition to the battery free switch solutions, EnOcean will present upcoming solar-based sensors for Bluetooth® lighting systems, for example, an occupancy sensor, a temperature/humidity sensor, a magnet contact, and a light sensor.

About EnOcean

EnOcean is the pioneer of energy harvesting and sensor-to-cloud solutions for sustainable Internet of Things (IoT) applications.
