EnOcean at the Smart Buildings Show 2019: Energy harvesting wireless sensors for energy-efficient buildings and modular homes

Oberhaching/London – October 7, 2019

At Smart Buildings Show 2019 (October 9-10, Olympia, London, UK), industry experts will discuss smart buildings delivering services that make occupants productive at the lowest cost and environmental impact over the building lifecycle. At booth #D21, EnOcean will be demonstrating its latest developments for energy harvesting wireless switches and sensors that provide the data needed for an optimised usage of building space and monitoring internal environments. These flexible, self-powered and maintenance-free solutions are also the ideal home automation fit for the emerging trend of modular homes.

At booth #D21, visitors to the show can instantly experience how such systems look like: Eltako Electronics, an EnOcean Alliance Promoter member, will be showing its comprehensive product portfolio of intelligent and sustainable smart home and building automation solutions based on the EnOcean technology.

EnOcean uses the energy harvesting principle, in which energy is obtained from the surroundings (motion, light and temperature differences), to power wireless switches and sensors. As a result, they are both self-powered and maintenance-free and can be placed flexibly as well as adjusted or expanded at anytime. Depending on the application, the products use the EnOcean (ISO/IEC 14543-3-1X), Bluetooth® or Zigbee international standards for wireless communication. The EnOcean energy harvesting wireless technology is already proven in around 1,000,000 buildings worldwide, from factories to offices and multi-occupancy buildings as well as smart homes.

Data for digitised buildings

Networked with IoT cloud platforms, self-powered sensors supply the needed raw data in real time to intelligent control systems, which are the basis for digitalised buildings and facilities services. This enables for example a demand-based efficient energy usage, optimised room utilisation management, asset management or even analysing the use of devices and furniture for a more flexible and comfortable working environment. Flexible automation for modular homes

Rising populations and changing demographics have created housing shortages across the world. Modular housing based on factory automation principles is a trend in the UK to respond to this challenge. It’s a solution that dovetails perfectly with home automation using energy harvesting wireless controls and sensors. This enables resource-saving, self-powered switches and sensors to be used to flexibly control applications for home automation and ambient assisted living.
