Oberhaching, Germany/Barcelona, Spain – September 26, 2017

At IoT Solutions World Congress 2017 in Barcelona (October 3-5, 2017), EnOcean, world leader in energy harvesting wireless technology will demonstrate how maintenance-free wireless solutions for building automation and the Internet of Things (IoT) add new dimensions to services and business models and help transform intelligent buildings into cognitive buildings. At booth #B254, visitors can experience self-powered wireless switches, sensors and actuators, as well as energy harvesting wireless sensor solutions based on the EnOcean wireless standard on the sub 1 GHz band (ISO/IEC 14543-3-1x). EnOcean’s batteryless devices facilitate highly flexible, maintenance-free applications for global use in building automation, smart homes, LED lighting control and industrial applications. Together with leading industry partners, such as IBM, and other EnOcean Alliance Members, EnOcean is working on developing innovative building solutions for the Internet of Things. In combination with intelligent IoT systems such as IBM´s Watson IoT Platform, self-powered sensor solutions help optimize the utilization of buildings, create new service models and make buildings more flexible, more energy-efficient and altogether more cost-effective.

The key to intelligent IoT systems

“To bring sensors to the cloud, EnOcean´s self-powered wireless technology is crucial for collecting large amounts of reliable sensor information”, says Andreas Schneider, CEO of EnOcean. “Maintenance-free sensor solutions based on EnOcean modules will significantly facilitate the transition to big data analytics and the Internet of Things. In close collaboration with strong partners, we will continue developing exciting new self-powered, maintenance-free applications for our customer’s sensor solutions in the IoT.”

At IoT Solutions World Congress 2017, EnOcean will be demonstrating self-powered switches, sensors and actuators as well as energy harvesting wireless sensor solutions in combination with the Smart EnOcean gateway from Digital Concepts. These solutions are based on the EnOcean wireless standard (ISO/IEC 14543-3-1X) introduced by the EnOcean Alliance on the sub 1 GHz band, which has proven to be a resounding success in building automation and smart homes, due to its high reliability and a radio range of up to 30 meters. Self-powered wireless sensor solutions help to make buildings more flexible, more energy-efficient and more cost-effective.

Together with leading industry partner IBM, EnOcean will present a cutting-edge IoT solution on the EnOcean wireless standard.

IBM and EnOcean to bring sensors to the cloud for IoT applications in sub 1 GHz

To further develop self-powered wireless solutions with EnOcean radio standard in sub 1 GHz for the Internet of Things, EnOcean is in close collaboration with IBM, a strong partner with longstanding expertise in cloud-based services and IoT. EnOcean is proud to be one of the first IBM Business Partners to use the mark “Ready for IBM Watson IoT”.

In combination with IBM´s Watson IoT Platform, a fully managed, cloud-hosted service, self-powered EnOcean-based sensors enable maintenance-free solutions for Real Estate Management to increase operational, financial and environmental performance of facilities. Standardized sensor profiles help ensure the interoperability of more than 1,500 products from the EnOcean eco-system, making it possible to develop interoperable system solutions. These solutions can be used in asset management, ambient assisted living projects, insurance or hotel and campus projects, giving maintenance-free wireless switches and sensors based on EnOcean technology.

Embracing IoT in cognitive buildings

Cognitive buildings represent the next generation of sustainable building systems. The Internet of Things adds new dimensions to classic building automation by transmitting sensor data to cloud-based IT platforms that link the data with other information available on the Internet and smart data analysis tools. Intelligent buildings will soon be able to integrate IoT devices on their own, generate vast amounts of data and use them to optimize the building. This gives an entirely new dimension to services and business models.

From asset management to insurance services

Intelligent IoT system solutions based on comprehensive or predictive evaluation of extensively collected data in the IoT add considerable value for building owners, insurance companies, facility managers and users. Asset management enables companies to establish the requirements for the optimum management of cost-intensive use of resources in terms of space, personnel and objects. Usage patterns of the building, personnel and inventory can thus be prepared to determine the optimum use of resources and security requirements.

Self-powered sensor solutions enable early detection and intervention in the event of fires and water leakage, providing large benefits to insurance companies by reducing costs. Simple monitoring of sanitary facilities with presence sensors makes it possible to efficiently clean the areas and plan resources, which, in turn substantially lowers costs and increases user satisfaction. In hotels and other living and useable spaces, the combination of window contacts and motion sensors is an ideal way to increase protection, security and energy efficiency.

About EnOcean

EnOcean is the pioneer of energy harvesting and sensor-to-cloud solutions for sustainable Internet of Things (IoT) applications. For more than 20 years, EnOcean has been producing maintenance-free wireless switches and sensors, which gain their energy from the surroundings – from movement, light, or temperature changes. The combination of miniaturized energy converters, ultra-low power electronics, robust radio technology, and open multi-protocol connectivity solutions based on open standards (EnOcean, Zigbee, Bluetooth®, BACnet, Modbus, LON, and IAP) forms the foundation for smart buildings, services, and production processes in the IoT. The sustainable EnOcean solutions are used in building automation, smart homes, LED lighting control, and industrial applications to optimize the CO2-footprint of buildings. EnOcean is a strong partner for more than 500 leading product manufacturers and has completed more than a million buildings worldwide.
