Easy to install and retrofit home emergency call system with EnOcean technology
May 26, 2025
In care facilities and serviced apartments quick help in an emergency counts. Modern home emergency call systems support care staff. Older buildings, however, often lack the necessary infrastructure for such call systems. IQfy installed a home emergency call system in all rooms in an existing building in a very short space of time. This uses battery- and cable-free products from EnOcean and was configured individually for the residents. They can quickly trigger an emergency call, which is reliably and securely sent directly to the care staff's cell phones.
High-quality medical care and rapid response in an emergency
The “Haus Lauenstein” residential home is centrally located in the city center of Bochum (Germany). It belongs to the non-profit Senioren-Wohnheim Brühl gGmbH, which preserves and promotes the independence and freedom of choice of its residents. The home offers 88 spacious residential units, which residents can design individually with their own furniture. The residential home offers individually designed 1- to 3-room apartments and a wide range of services. These include care by an outpatient service, personal care, household support and meals. The home also organizes regular cultural events.
“The medical care of our residents is our top priority. We have to act immediately, especially in emergencies. The emergency system we had was outdated and linked to our phone system,” explains Jörg Sauerstein, facility manager of the residential home. “We wanted a modern system that was independent of the telephone system.” At a trade fair the offer from IQfy, a provider of intuitive assistance systems for elderly care, impressed him. The company facilitates and secures the everyday lives of residents in care homes and improves the efficiency and predictability of the service provider. It uses the wireless and battery-free product range from EnOcean.
Wireless and battery-free products from EnOcean as a fast and efficient solution
Installing a home emergency call system in an existing building poses challenges. In ‘Haus Lauenstein’, the cable infrastructure is extensive and for the most part difficult to access. The installation of a standard call system with a connection to the duty room was therefore complex and expensive. “Our technology overcomes the hurdles of complex cable infrastructures and offers a fast, practical and cost-effective solution,” explains Tobias Reichler, assistant to the management of IQfy GmbH.
At the heart of the system is the digital security solution ‘SAFEhome’, which has been specially adapted to the needs of “Haus Lauenstein”. In the event of an emergency call, it immediately informs the caregiver on their cell phone. This enables them to reach the residents quickly and take the necessary measures. The system documents every emergency, from triggering to deactivation by the carer.
Flexible alarm options
The system impresses with its economical and flexible alarm options:
- Emergency call watches and necklaces send signals up to 35 meters away
- Battery and wireless emergency buttons are easy to place and maintenance-free
- Water-protected sensors are suitable for use in wet areas
- Contact sensors on doors and windows monitor residents with dementia
IoT technology from EnOcean uses kinetic energy and eliminates the need for batteries. This significantly reduces maintenance requirements and running costs. The quick and uncomplicated installation without complex cabling enables rapid commissioning and hardly disrupts everyday care routines. Thanks to its efficiency, versatility and reliability, the solution proves to be particularly cost-effective for care facilities.
Home emergency call system configured and installed in a few weeks
IQfy’s home emergency call system, which relies on IoT technology from EnOcean, was fully operational in just six weeks. IQfy tailored the software precisely to all individual requirements. A resident-specific emergency call package was preconfigured for each of the 88 residential units and installed in the home within just one day. The example of “Haus Lauenstein” is an impressive demonstration of how care homes can digitize their structures and processes in a short space of time. The IQfy home emergency call system not only relieves the burden on care staff but also increases the safety of residents in emergencies and saves lives. It can be individually adapted and installed in both new buildings and existing care homes within just a few weeks.
