25 Years of EnOcean: Proven Technology and Innovation Provide a Strong Foundation for Future Growth

From Energy Harvesting Pioneer to Provider of Smart, Sustainable IoT and AI Solutions

Munich, October 12, 2026 – EnOcean GmbH celebrates 25 years of success and looks confidently to the future. A quarter-century of EnOcean stands for technological expertise, relentless innovation, and a sharp vision: intelligent systems must operate reliably, sustainably, and with minimal maintenance. With energy harvesting, battery-free sensors, and IoT solutions, EnOcean has built the technological base for its next stage of growth. This includes advanced solutions for energy management, space optimization, and well-being, alongside ventures into dynamic new application areas.

25 Years of Technology as a Foundation for the Future

“Twenty-five years mean more to us than just an anniversary. They reflect continuous technological progress, accumulated expertise, and dedicated effort—a solid base for sustainable growth,” says Raoul Wijgergangs, CEO of EnOcean GmbH. “Now it is about building on this foundation and taking EnOcean into new markets and application areas.”

The development of battery-free sensors has evolved into a comprehensive approach to intelligent spaces and connected assets. EnOcean sensors harvest energy from their environment—light, motion, or temperature differences—enabling years of operation with minimal maintenance. This technology, proven in millions of applications, remains the cornerstone of the business today.

Intelligent Solutions for Global Challenges

EnOcean has built on its technology to refine its business and focus on three key growth areas: energy management, space optimization, and well-being. Data from buildings and facilities forms the foundation for using energy more efficiently, making better use of space, and creating healthier, more comfortable environments for work and living.

The EnOcean approach follows a continuous loop: sense, capture, analyze, and act. Battery-free sensors provide data from the physical world. Gateways and IoT infrastructures capture the data. Software turns the data into insights. Intelligent systems then convert these insights into concrete actions.

“Our goal is not to collect as much data as possible, but to turn them into tangible value–by boosting energy efficiency, improving space usage, and enhancing users’ well-being,” says Wijgergangs.

Tracking, Tracing and Localization Open New Growth Markets

A pivotal move in the next growth phase came with the acquisition of Undagrid in early 2025. By integrating battery-free sensors with Undagrid’s tracking, tracing, and localization technology, the company extended its solutions beyond static environments into dynamic, asset-heavy industries like aviation, logistics, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare.

“From monitoring transport equipment and containers to optimizing inventory or safeguarding critical assets, merging location and condition data opens up new possibilities for transparency, efficiency, and sustainable asset management,” explains Wijgergangs.

The Next Step: Physical AI

With the next evolution of artificial intelligence, the role of sensor data is also changing. “AI is becoming physical. It’s leaving screens and entering real-world spaces, buildings, and equipment. To operate there, it needs dependable data from the physical world—precisely where EnOcean has excelled for 25 years,” says Wijgergangs.

One example is AskUndagrid. Users can retrieve operational data by asking questions in natural language, bypassing dashboards, and reports. This transforms existing tracking and condition data into instantly usable operational insights.

Ready for What Comes Next

After 25 years, EnOcean is well positioned to tackle both existing and emerging challenges. The company aims to scale up its expertise and make intelligent, sustainable solutions available to new markets. “Our technological foundation is established, our solutions have been expanded to meet user needs, and we’ve opened doors to new growth opportunities. The past 25 years have proven what we can achieve with innovation, persistence, and a sharp vision. We will build on this foundation in the years ahead. Our goal is to keep advancing EnOcean, explore new markets, and lay the groundwork for smarter systems that are more sustainable, dependable, and easy to use,” concludes Wijgergangs.
