EnOcean at Aruba Atmosphere ’22 – greener and safer buildings with smart spaces

Together with Aruba, IoT expert EnOcean makes buildings more energy-efficient and creates more comfortable and safer working environments with maintenance-free sensor data.

Oberhaching, Germany – March 17, 2022

At Aruba Atmosphere (March 27 – April 1, 2022, Las Vegas) Aruba partners come together to share insights about the latest network technology and innovations in network automation and cloud-based services. EnOcean’s wireless and self-powered sensor solutions play an integral part in this as the sensor data lays the foundation for a variety of IoT applications and smart spaces.

EnOcean’s radio sensors collect the required data in a maintenance-free way as they neither require cables nor batteries thanks to the sustainable energy harvesting technology. Therefore, they can be flexibly mounted in the room, even on chairs or desks. The combination of radio and energy harvesting enables new applications like smart spaces, entirely without maintenance requirements and battery waste.

In his talk on March 31st from 8:45 am to 9:45 am, EnOcean’s CEO Raoul Wijgergangs will present why smart spaces are so important in order to create a healthy, save and comfortable working environment for employees and at the same time reduce the CO2 emissons of a building.

Smart workplace management

Even after the COVID pandemic, many office workplaces will no longer be used on five days a week, but rather only on three or four days. As a result, a relevant number of workstations will always remain unoccupied. Employees who work remotely on a regular basis will be able to share a workstation with colleagues as needed. So-called desk-sharing and hybrid working models can save employers 25% to 40% of space to rent and running costs.

Maintenance-free motion sensors detect at any time how many people are in a building or room, when and where. Vibration sensors attached to desks reliably monitor which workstations are currently being used by employees and which are still free for work.

We often underestimate the effects that the right air quality has on ourselves during work. By constantly monitoring temperature and humidity smart spaces help to both create a comfortable working environment and increase employee motivation and productivity by 15%.

Making buildings greener

Unused desks also mean unused spaces that can become real energy consumers. This is an important aspect, as buildings are responsible for around 40% of global CO2 emissions. For example, if an area is only used at certain times or very rarely, heating, cooling, ventilation and lighting can be adjusted accordingly. In addition, the data collection of the respective rooms also helps to determine which areas are actually used so little that it is not even worthwhile for companies to continue renting them. This not only reduces rental costs, but also directly saves 30% of CO2 in a commercial environment.

About EnOcean

EnOcean GmbH is the pioneer of energy harvesting. Headquartered in Oberhaching, near Munich, the company delivers valuable data for the Internet of Things (IoT) with its resource-saving technology. For more than 20 years, EnOcean has been producing maintenance-free wireless switches and sensors, which gain their energy from the surroundings – from movement, light or temperature. The combination of miniaturized energy converters, ultra-low power electronics and robust radio technology based on open standards (EnOcean, Zigbee and Bluetooth®) forms the foundation for digitized buildings, services and production processes in the IoT. The self-powered solutions are used in building automation, smart homes, LED lighting control and industrial applications and thus help to optimize the CO2-footprint of buildings. As an innovation driver, EnOcean is a strong partner for more than 350 leading product manufacturer and has already completed more than a million buildings worldwide with energy harvesting solutions.
